T.R.I.-Iron - How it Works

Background

Iron is an essential mineral present primarily in hemoglobin. The main function of this nutrient is to transport oxygen from the lungs to cells for utilization in metabolism and the extraction of energy from food, and to transport carbon dioxide back to the lungs for exhalation. Iron is also a cofactor for several important oxidation-reduction enzymes including the cytochrome proteins, and is a component of the protein myoglobin which functions in muscle much the way hemoglobin functions in blood. Iron may also play a role in the conversion of beta-carotene to vitamin A.

Because the iron in Tri-Iron is present as the fumarate salt and is slowly released over several hours, gastrointestinal disturbances often associated with the administration of iron are minimized. The delivery system utilized in Tri-Iron consists of tiny timed-release particles which are dispersed very rapidly. This unique feature eliminates the danger present with iron tablets which can become lodged in the GI tract and produce severe irritation. Tri-Iron also contains vitamins, B1, B2, B12 and whole liver, an excellent source of natural iron.

Indications

Iron deficiency is one of the most prevalent nutritional deficiency problems in the world, affecting possibly 35-58% of young healthy females. For this reason, iron supplementation is often warranted. Because its functions are so fundamental, symptoms of iron deficiency are quite broad. They include: fatigue, listlessness, palpitation after exertion, headache, dizziness, irritability and possibly reduced resistance to infection. Severe deficiency results in hypochromic microcytic anemia. Iron is better absorbed when in the presence of vitamin C.*

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that manufacturing problems have been associated with dietary supplements. Products been recalled because of microbiological, pesticide, and heavy metal contamination, and because they do not contain the dietary ingredients they are represented to contain, or they contain more or less than the amount of dietary ingredient claimed on the label.
