Aved-Multi Softgels - How it Works

Background

Some people refuse to take a daily multivitamin rather than swallowing several large capsules. Some are concerned that tablets may not completely breakdown during digestion. Since a multivitamin and mineral supplement is the foundation of any effective nutritional regimen people need a convenient and reassuring way to obtain many of their dietary requirements.

Anabolic Laboratories offers a softgel multivitamin designed for the hard-to-please. Not only does this product offer 100% or more of 19 necessary vitamins and minerals, it also provides important antioxidant, anti-inflammatory protection with added lutein and lycopene. Our MultiGel Cap is a two-per-day, easy to swallow softgel offering the patients a very broad multivitamin and mineral supplement in a extremely convenient form.

Lutein is a recently discovered requirement for eye health and taken long-term has been shown to reduce the risk for age-related macular degeneration1(AMD). This property is thought to be due to the close structural similarities between lutein and vitamin A allowing lutein access to the eye where it acts in a protective role fighting inflammation. There seems to be several mechanisms for protection by lutein which acts both as an antioxidant and reduces the levels of COX-2 and neuronal NOS; both key inflammatory enzymes2 .

Lycopene is another recently discovered nutrient. Along with vitamin C and carotenoids3, lutein protects the endothelial linings of arteries and veins from oxidative damage. Low levels of these antioxidants are associated with increased levels of risk factor markers, CVD and morbid outcomes including heart attacks and strokes4. The mechanisms of protection by these antioxidants include actual inhibition of the catalysis of arachidonic acid (AA) by COX enzymes (product prostaglandins from which stimulate inflammation), increased biosynthesis of the protective enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the generalized reduction of peroxide species, such as dangerous lipid peroxides (LPO) via reduction to inert lipid alcohols and water within tissues. Because of their protective roles, these antioxidants, along with vitamin D3, magnesium and selenium are strongly associated with reduced long-term ischemic events and deficiencies are directly correlated with raised plasma levels of inflammatory and risk markers such as C-reactive proteins (CRP).

The Need To Consider Quality:

Of the magnesium supplements tested by ConsumerLab.com, 25% failed to meet quality standards. One magnesium supplement contained only 45.4% of labeled amount, despite boasting a "GMP" (Good Manufacturing Practices) seal on its label, and another supplement provided only 28.8% of the labeled amount.

Tests by ConsumerLab.com have found multivitamins that were short on ingredients, failed to dissolve properly, or were contaminated with heavy metals.
ConsumerLab.com, New Product Review: Multivitamin and Multimineral Supplements, Posted 4/1/09

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that manufacturing problems have been associated with dietary supplements. Products been recalled because of microbiological, pesticide, and heavy metal contamination, and because they do not contain the dietary ingredients they are represented to contain, or they contain more or less than the amount of dietary ingredient claimed on the label.
