Brief Product Description

High potency three per day vitamin-mineral formula with pancreatin concentrate (protease, amylase, lipase) and betaine hydrochloride for digestive support. Recommended for older patients and patients in need of digestion assistance.

Aved-Digest - How it Works

Background

The inclusion of the pancreatin concentrate acts to ease digestive problems; the proteases cleave complex proteins into easily absorbed amino acid constituents and the lipase enzymes hydrolyze insoluble di- and triglycerides and acylsterols into constituents that can be transported from the intestinal lumen, processed by the intestinal lining then transported to plasma. So these enzymes act as both digestive aids and prevent stomach upset due to poorly digested nutrients.

Rich in vitamins A, C, and E; these are the three most important anti-oxidants required for human health and yet are frequently absent in the modern American, fast-food diet. Vitamins C and E have been cited in many studies from lowering the risks from cardiovascular disorders to treating the common cold1.

Selenomethionine – this is the best way to deliver selenium to humans. Selenium is important as the active site metalloid in the key enzyme glutathione peroxidase, which maintains our intracellular redox state in the highly reduced state to combat the damaging effects of the unavoidable, superoxide radical ion (O2•¯) and many other forms of peroxides and hydrogen peroxide in mammalian cells2.

Zinc — while zinc is not an antioxidant per se, it is required at the active site of about 300 different enzymes, from carbonic anhydrase (transfers CO2 from plasma to lungs), superoxide dismutase (detoxifies O2•¯), to many zinc finger proteins, which are the keys controlling RNA transcription from DNA, initiating protein biosynthesis in response to cell signals. Proper zinc intake has also been recently shown as vital for proper immune response to lethal viral challenge3.

Provides liberal amounts of important B vitamins — key factors in nerve, cardiovascular and mental health. These vitamins are important catalysts in many enzymes of the citric acid cycle, protein catabolism, methyl group transfers of fatty acid catabolism, the critical reduction of ribose to deoxyribose and as the functional end of coenzyme A, which is involved in dozens of acetyl (acetic acid) transfer reactions in mammalian metabolism.

High in calcium and magnesium - these are well-known, essential macro-minerals. Magnesium supplementation is especially important since many people are deficient in this required mineral4.

Provides nutritional levels of boron; the newly discovered trace mineral for bone health. The boron of AVED-DIGEST is presented in a complex with citrate, aspartate, and glycinate for better absorption.

Vanadium – is an element with a newly discovered but important role in metabolism. Small amounts of this metal enhance the ability of insulin to transport glucose into cells5.

The chelated form of reduced chromium - this metal is required to maintain proper blood levels of insulin and glucose; it works by enhancing the ability of insulin to transport sugars from the bloodstream into respiring cells.

The Need To Consider Quality:

Of the magnesium supplements tested by ConsumerLab.com, 25% failed to meet quality standards. One magnesium supplement contained only 45.4% of labeled amount, despite boasting a "GMP" (Good Manufacturing Practices) seal on its label, and another supplement provided only 28.8% of the labeled amount.

Tests by ConsumerLab.com have found multivitamins that were short on ingredients, failed to dissolve properly, or were contaminated with heavy metals.
ConsumerLab.com, New Product Review: Multivitamin and Multimineral Supplements, Posted 4/1/09

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found that manufacturing problems have been associated with dietary supplements. Products been recalled because of microbiological, pesticide, and heavy metal contamination, and because they do not contain the dietary ingredients they are represented to contain, or they contain more or less than the amount of dietary ingredient claimed on the label.
