Orange flavored, chewable or easy to swallow- gelatin pearls containing omega 3 rich fish oil. Many diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer are associated with an excess of omega-6 fatty acids acquired from fast foods, deep fried foods, fatty animal products, and packaged foods such as potato chips. Omega-3s are found in green vegetables, wild fish, grass-fed animals, and chia, hemp, and flaxseeds. Moving a child's diet to omega-3 foods is important and supplementation with omega-3s helps ensure adequate intake of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA.
Increasingly, children diagnosed with attention disorders are being urged by healthcare providers to consume more omega-3 fatty acids. High sugar and omega-6 fatty acid intake among children has caused unprecedented obesity, attention disorders, childhood diabetes, depression, and anxiety.
Today, adequate nutrition for children is a true challenge, with companies aggressively marketing non-healthy foods and snacks. While there have been substantial improvements, even fast food restaurants are offering carrots or apples as options, it is still difficult to avoid high-fructose corn syrup, high salt content, and hydrolyzed proteins. Most of us do not think of ketchup or soft drinks in the same category as jelly beans and cupcakes, but the body does. Since it’s invention in the late 1950’s and introduction to the food supply in the early 1970’s, high-fructose corn syrup is widely used and difficult to avoid in prepared food items.
Finding ways to get children to consume anything healthy is always a struggle for parents. This problem is compounded by the many unhealthy but convenient foods available to fill their plate
Besides the fact that it is difficult to get children to eat well, children are poor at converting the small amounts alpha-linolenic acid they do consume into the essential omega-3 fatty acids: EPA and DHA. To make matters worse, the omega-3s they do manage to get have to compete with omega-6 fatty acids for placement within the structure of the cell wall.
In industrial societies, it is the norm to consume many over-processed foods and foods made with seed oils (sunflower, canola, safflower, all the so called “vegetable” oils) which contain omega-6 fatty acids. Omega-6 fatty acids are also found in grains (breads, cereals, crackers, etc.) and processed foods.
A healthy ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats is 1:1 or 2:1. A typical American diet contains a 15:1 or 20:1 ratio. An example of a terrible omega-6 ratio is potato chips, averaging a 60:1 ratio! This imbalance in dietary fat intake (too much Omega-6) can lead to negative health consequences and poor development of the immune system, nervous system, brain development, and insulin clearance.
Omega-3s, however, are essential to good health. They make up a vital part of the wall of each of the cells in our body. They are highly involved in brain cell development, maintenance and function. They are also play a crucial role in nervous system development. In fact, supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids has been shown to promote a healthy heart and a calm demeanor.
Adequate amounts of omega–3 essential fats are difficult to get through the daily diet due to the fact that the highest sources are generally from organisms that live in water. Given the important role of omega-3 fatty acids in maintaining overall health and mental acuity, supplementation is the best way to ensure adequate daily intake of EPA and DHA.
Suggested Usage: As a dietary supplement, take 2 chewable sofgel pearls per day, or as directed by a physician.
